Is there a reason why Apple officially mentions only Win XP SP2 in their Bootcamp literature? I know people run other versions of Windows in Parallels, so why not in Bootcamp?

As I already have Win 2K Pro installation CDs, I'd rather avoid giving another $100 to M$. Besides, I prefer Win 2K Pro over XP for its better security and cleaner interface.

It's all about the drivers. The ones packaged in Boot Camp are best suited for XP, but there are some adventurous souls who have done what you want to do. you just won't get full hardware support.

IMHO that merits a "Why would you want to do that?" ;)

Just slipstream your install disc and install SP2, which is far better than SP1a.

EDIT: Also plenty of folks have tries SP1a and run into major troubles, so why bother?

Because that's the disk that's being freed up by my switching the in-laws to a new iMac! :D

I'll have to investigate slipstream further I guess, but I'm only really considering Bootcamp/windows for a couple of Battlefield games, that are gathering dust at the moment. Perhaps I'll flog 'em and buy something else - save me the hassle factor.

Thanks for the link! I'll give it a go when I get my Mac and report back in this forum.

That would be great, I'd be very interested in hearing how it goes for you. Am considering W2k myself.
