How easy is it to notice a scratch on the new black macbook? If possible, please post a photo.

I haven't noticed one yet (I've been being very careful), but I'm worried about it when it does happen because I'm not sure what's under the black paint and how thick the paint is..

Im wondering the same.. if there will be a glossy black plastic under it or not. Wouldnt it have been ideal for Apple to make the whole thing black, with no paint?

Of course, this is speculation, as we are still waiting for a photo of a scratched one.

PS: People I wanna see a good scratch either underneath or on top, none of this little nick here and there garbage.

I saw a photo on these forums of one that was scratched fairly bad on the underneath it looked like there was a paint layer that got scratched off. I don't know if it was photoshopped or not but I think it was in one of the threads covering the flaking that supposedly happened to the lid of one.

This has been proven to be a false issue. I believe the original poster of the "issue" has even alluded to it on the website.

yeah thats why I didn't say thats what I was referring to. read my post again I just said it was in a thread about that I believe.

In one of the threads that was about that incident I saw a picture of the underside of a black macbook that had a big scratch on it. Not the lid but the underside. I wish I knew which thread it was.

If there is lets say "primer" or a grey color under just get some black auto paint that has a clearcoat in it and fill it in...if you do it right it should look good as new! :)

microfiber cloth and a slight bit of water should take care of those fingerprints :)

I beat the snot out of my black MacBook, and there is not a ding on it.

My opinion is the flaking was an exception. No one else has reported issues as far as I know.

    (And the black is beautiful...)

they are'n't noticeable unless it's a very veryh very serious scratch. all you'll see is a dark, faint line (a trick of the light, you could say) ;)

    wow...

it hasnt even been a month since the release of the macbook and you already "beat the snot" out of it?!

it is good to hear that there isnt a ding in it though.

If someone has a minor scratch or any kind of blemish, can you please post up some picture?

I did manage to scratch the paint off the turn latch for the battery. Be VERY careful to not be rough with it. It comes off easy with the hard texture of a quarter or dime. Use a nickel or penny.

sure thing. My wife is gone with her Macbook or else I'd take it with her isight! ;)

Again... it's not THAT noticable, but it is to anal geeks like me. It's actually kind of hard to describe how it looks without seeing it. Anyhow, I'll try and post the pics today.

You're an anal geek and the only camera you have is on your wife's laptop?

here at the apple store palo alto, and i checked out the black macbooks again. this time, i did notice some paint chippings on the back. beneath it is a shiny black plastic like the white macbooks, except black. i took a pic with the neighboring macbook pro.

keep in mind these comps do go through some beating here...

I think I would have liked the MacBook better if the black had a shiny finish as shown underneath the paint, rather than the matte one.
