Man, I tell you. I'm only 24 and I feel like I am already developing some form of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. My hands ache in the morning (when I type) and my wrists seem tight, and I have what I think is numbness. Anyone else have these symptoms?

Anyhow, is it ture that not resting your wrists on the table when typing/using the mouse helps avoid CTS? I've heard that CTS happens because by resting your weight on your wrists, the nerves/veins lose circulation, etc.

CTS is from repetetive use... such as typing.

Ergonomic stuff is nice in that it helps put your hands in less strainful positions... but it's not the major culprit... it's the repetetive movement.

I'm going to yield to your knowledge here, but I thougt RSI was the repetitive injury, and CTS was caused by a number of factors like ergonomics, positioning, etc. causing a pressure to build up in the tunnel which negatively impacted nervous signals.

    Enlighten us...

though typing is known for it, i got cts from playing guitar for two decades and i alleviated it with better positioning and less time playing...way less time

    now i am ok

I had problems with my right wrist for a while (mousing)...could have been due to rowing at the time as well.

I found a wrist pad helped a lot...

Same here Jef! Got it playing the guitar. Typing has never been a problem, but use a split key keyboard, and ergonomic mouse. Eyelikeart is having problems with it as well. He just ordered a tablet from me today, so hopefully that will help him out.

For as much as I use the computer, I'm surprised how well my hands and wrists are. However, I do notice that after a while my eyes and neck start to hurt, but taking regular breaks seems to make this a rare occurrence, but it happens.

    this sucks...but I thank BackDawg for hooking a brudda up! :D ;)

I try to keep it in the back of my mind, use some ergonomic items for the keyboard & mouse.

I think carpal tunnel is a subset of the repetitive stress injuries... but I'm no expert...

I thought I had CTS, went to a few specialists, physical therapy, wrist splint, etc. Physical therapy helped eliminate the pain in my shoulder blade, elbow, and wrist. I was having shooting pains and numbness along my Median Nerve. It runs from the brain stem across the back, under your arm and down to your hand and terminates in the thumb, pointer and middle fingers. I have since gotten a nice new chair at work which helps me sit in a more comfortable position and the pain is now managable. And my doctor says I don't have CTS. Maybe I can start a lawsuit against ID Software for making Quake III so addictive.

    cheers!

Anyone here use any of the wrist pad, guard, supports or other prosthetics devices?

Information site about CTS and treatment.

Back when I used to sit at the computer for hours and hours a day (even more than now) i developed a shooting pain in both wrists, right through the center, but more in my left wrist (which i broke badly once)... went away on it's own, but man it hurt... i wonder if it wasn't the precursor to CTS...

    i...hate...CTS.
horrible horrible refuse to think about it.
Can't do homework or coding at night...because i spent the previous night playing (insert name of game) or typing (insert name of some class I'm taking right now). yes indeed CTS is an RSI, so basically CTS is when your median nerve gets compressed because you're doing some repetitive movement a lot (such as playing certain instruments and typing).

Gawd i got it from being too used to doing things on laptops (note to self: not good), playing the piano and playing addictive games (another note to self: must trash copy of vice city).

are you people all guys or something?!
