I'm at work and without my PSP (funny how the boss frowns on that). Has anyone updated their PSP to v2.0 firmware? If so, how is the browser working?

Dunno. If I had my PSP here I'd try to update the fiirmware to see if there was a version for the US as well.

No way on earth am I updating to the new firmware. i don't really care for the new browser. The only thing that I like about the update is the aac support. Any firmware above 1.51 does not allow homebrew apps and emulators to be run on the psp. I am having too much fun playing snes and neogeo cd games on the thing for me to upgrade.

I was going to update it, but I think I will just wait until the US version comes out.

download from here . According to the message boards at PSPWorld, the Japanese version works fine over here.

    • download firmware update
    • mount your PSP on your desktop via USB connection
    • drag the downloaded fileEBOOT.PBP into GAMES/UPDATE folder
    • sync using PSPWare or whatever else you are using
    • on the PSP go to games, select memory stick
    • select the update and install

    Works fine

I can see using this browser a bunch, but I'd have to have a keyboard. This is too slow.

Yeah this is very slow typing, but with a mini keyboard this would be a blast!

Ok, so after typing that last response with the PSP, I am back to the computer. The new update is pretty good. Since I used the Japanese update, I noticed that my web page encoding was in Japanese (shift-JIS), which was pretty slow. Now that I switched to Western, it is a little snapper. I also disabled Image display and Animation Display, which sped up load times tremendously.

Sony now has a warning on the Japan download site saying, in English, not to install this update, but wait for the US release. I hear on the Playstation boards that there may be memory/networking issues. So, Ive decided to wait, although I want that update sooo bad.

Also, have y'all seen the new white PSP? I think its looks sexy.
EDIT: theres already a thread here on the white one. Sorry =)

I read on gamespot that installing the Japanese V2 update on a US PSP voids the warranty possibly.

    So i think i'll wait...

Word on the street says we will get the US update on August 15th, but each Sony rep says something different. Still, I think I can wait that long.

I just finished intstalling the Japanese 2.0 firmware on my US PSP. No problems so far, but since I don't have wireless in my building, I haven't tried the browser. The only new features I've played around with are using the new photo and music formats. All of my games still run fine.

If it turns out that I was stupid to install this version and not wait for the "official" US update, i plan to use my 1 year ebgames PSP hardware guarantee that I bought with the unit last May. Been meaning to use it anyway since I scuffed up the screen before buying the screen armor.

I am waiting until August 12 for the official US v2.0, just to be on the safe side.

You have to get it from the Japanese site but it works amazing it has no bad effects except the web browser needs a keyboard.
