    Hey,

I was wondering what you guys out there use other than iChat? Anything better? I would like one that will capture all of my IMs in a dialog box when I am away and auto-respond to incoming messages?

Just some thoughts, what do you guys use?

Adium is probably the best chat client I've ever used. Very customizable and equally unintrusive.

    Adium is great.
for some reason i love iChat though.
and Chax just makes it better.

    unless you need multi-protocol services.

I just like the hover-over box on Adium, how it displays all the info such as online time, aways, idles, and displays the buddy icon bigger in a nice window. I wish iChat did this, then I'd use it.

if you check "Auto-reply to Away Messages" in the iChat preferences, it'll auto-reply.

I have a few things I prefer about Adium. One, it's very subtle - it's not just another window that I have floating around. It seems better integrated than iChat in that respect. Two, multiple protocols...I hop on Google Talk as well as AIM. Three, multiple signons. It's nice to be several places at once.

    edit: screenshot.

Adium is miles better, but I find I have to keep iChat running in the background just for the 3-way iSight conferences, a functionality no client on any platform has even approached.

AdiumX is by far the best multi-protocol application for the Mac. There is also Fire, but not as nice.

I think if I could find people to iSight with I would probably agree. ^.^

i just started using Adium. Only reason I use any Instant Messaging program is for Instant Messaging and only people I know have AIM. Should I just use AIM or Adium?

I like Proteus best, but it's got some minor problems in Rosetta, so I'm using Adium on my iMac for the time being. I plan to switch back to Proteus as soon as it comes out as a Universal Binary.

To elaborate, I enjoy being able to fully customize my contact list and message windows, as well as used tabbed IM's. I know these things can be done in iChat using third party software, but I like the way it is done in Adium better.

iChat is a good program, I just prefer Adium. :)

I personally like aMSN better, mainly because all my friends use MSN so I have virtually no need for other clients.
