I know there are many aol and dsl posts, but none seem to help me.

I have a dsl modem from aol. I don't mean a dsl modem with byoa aol. The modem is from aol. I have never had a problem with it on my pc (or linux though wine for that matter), but I have no idea how to get it to work on os x. in windows, I can search for ways to connect to aol and the software detects the dsl connection or i can do it manually. In osx, I cannot do this either way. Anyone get this to work?

In older versions of aol for windows, I had to install extra software to use the aol dsl modem. Is there such software for os x?

    Thanks

I do believe that the AOL Broadband thing uses your local cable companie as your REAL ISP. Plug the modem into your Mac via ethernet. On MacOS X click the apple menu>system preferences>network>select ethernet and try configuring using DHCP and see if that works. Use a browser to see if you connection works, if you have a working connection open AOL for MacOS X (plus) and there should be a selection for broadband or ISP.

    Good Luck,
    Chris

A bit off topic, but are you saying that your ISP gave you the modem? Is that normal over there? Here in NZ you have to buy your own modem. You have to pay for 3 different things - pay for the modem (once), pay the telco for the DSL service (monthly) and pay your ISP (monthly).

Ok, does use local companies a little. Verizon had to come to make my house dsl ready. But I pay my bill to aol, use aol drivers for the modem, was sent a free modem from aol. The only draw back is that unlike many other isp, I do not have constant internet access. I have to sign on aol. I ususally minimize it an use a browser though.

Do you know where I get this aol for macOS X Plus. I use a plus version for windows.

And I did say FREE modem. Aol is a better company that most people believe. Most companies make you buy a modem, but aol gives you a modem. Its nice. Plus (under windows) I almost never loose connection. I am sign on for up to weeks at a time.
