Apogee Duet & MIDI

Hi,
I'm about to buy a Macbook and a digital piano to compose and record with Logic.
I have been recommended to buy the Duet but have no idea what advantages this will give me.
Will it improve the sound? Will it serve as a sound card?
All I see is that it is a converter and interface for mic or guitars, etc...
No MIDI, just USB directly from the piano..
So, where would the Duet come in? For the earphones?

I'm new to recording and Mac's, so any explanations would be really helpful.

Yes & yes. Its a sound card, or rather, audio interface. But a very good quality one (About the best there is). It doesn't have midi, but it sounds like you don't need it anyway, seeing as your keyboard plugs in via USB.
Its a little expensive though if you are not especially fussy about sound quality. There are lots of similar devices that sound just fine, but are often at least half the price.
You can use its output to feed a mixer or your stereo system. And it should also be perfectly good for headphones.
