sometimes it's really nice to be able to close your computer and have it still running, so you can listen to music or whatever. So I used to use either Sleepless or Insomniax to do this. However, since the 10.4.8 patch neither of these programs work.

Does anyone know of a program that still works to keep the Macbook from going to sleep with the lid closed?

Nope...not without the whole external monitor/keyboard/mouse setup. Those two apps were the way to do it, but as you noted, they're currently broken. No word on when/if a workaround will be developed.

You'll probably have to wait for them to fix those programs, but I do remember reading about a hack in which you blocked the magnet on the lid so it never registered that it was closed. But it was for an iBook, not sure if it would work on a MacBook. I don't remember where I read it either, so I guess I'm not all that big of a help. Sorry!

Since Apple has pulled the 10.4.8 source we can only hope that the next 10.4.9 patch fixes the problem.

Without the source code no one is able to see what happened in 10.4.8 to break it.
