Apple Announces Plans to Establish iOS App Design and Development Accelerator in India

As was rumored earlier this week, Apple today announced plans to establish a new iOS App Design and Development Accelerator in Bangalore, India. According to Apple, the accelerator is part of an effort to support engineering talent and boost growth in India's iOS developer community.

"India is home to one of the most vibrant and entrepreneurial iOS development communities in the world," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO. "With the opening of this new facility in Bengaluru, we're giving developers access to tools which will help them create innovative apps for customers around the world."

On a weekly basis, Apple experts plan to lead briefings and offer one-on-one app reviews for developers. The facility will also feature support and guidance to help Indian developers master Swift, Apple's programming language. Apple plans to open its iOS App Design and Development Accelerator in early 2017.

"This is a huge vote of confidence in India's developer community and a tremendous opportunity to gain world-class design and development expertise," said Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal. "Apple's support will help drive growth and accelerate progress among the country's vast talent pool."

News of Apple's Development Accelerator comes as Apple CEO Tim Cook is making his first official visit to India, where he will meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Apple is also planning to open a technology development center in Hyderabad, India, where it will focus on Maps development, and rumors suggest Apple will open its first three retail stores in India over the course of the next 18 months.

Realistically, how many app engineers learn their skills from school? I think you're much better off learning up to date syntax at an accelerated rate on your own than in a classroom. Heck I have a friend that just completed a Udemy course in two months would take, what, six months in our broken education system?

This reminds me of when people say to produce tech locally, which generally means the US for most of the people who say it. And just like those people, this ignores the lack of resources in terms of manpower going into the required fields. Of course they need to get H1B visas, there aren't people going into programming in large enough amounts.

He's meeting up with a lot of billionaires, Tata and Reliance would most probably help with opening Apple Stores in the cities. I'm going to rejoice to this, and hope that we can finally have customisable Macs, instead of buying from a preset order.

Good move-- there is a huge amount of talent there and something like this could really help drive entrepreneurship.

More people writing better apps, for sure, but there has also been a real push of Indian developers contributing to open source projects.

I'm pretty sure the article was in English, so I didn't really need a translation-- but it looks like you must have translated it into Hindi and back a few times because what I'm reading is nothing like what you're saying. This isn't an effort to hire more developers into Apple, but to support the growing developer community in India.

This is about getting developers to make apps, not source talent. Moreover, there is no indication that Apple is outsourcing anything. Third, even if they were, America doesn't produce enough talent as somebody already stated.

This myth has been busted repeatedly. The abuse of H1B visas is solely to increase profits and drive down wages. Disney had one of it's most profitable years when it replaced its IT staff with cheap Indian labor on H1B visas.

That's part of it but it's also a form of bribery like all the stuff they're doing in China. They are trying to get the Indian government to allow them to open Apple stores in India.
