With Earth Day just over a week away, Apple has begun an initiative wherein users can help raise money for the World Wildlife Fund by making purchases within specially designated apps. Running from now until April 24 (two days after Earth Day), all proceeds collected from participating apps will go to the WWF, which is the world's leading conservation organization with aims to protect natural resources -- from forests and oceans to wildlife and food -- through innovative, global solutions.

Some of the apps joining in on the fundraiser include Angry Birds 2 [Direct Link], Hearthstone [Direct Link], VSCO [Direct Link], Trivia Crack [Direct Link], and several dozen more. In addition to the Apps for Earth promotion, the company has thematically changed the entire front-end of the App Store with multiple environmentally conscious messages and themed categories.

The official WWF Together app [Direct Link] acts as a hub for all of the fundraising material, along with giving users exclusive Earth Day-themed content.
WWF is proud to be part of Apps for Earth, helping protect the planet, one app at a time. Through April 24 only, when you download WWF Together and purchase Earth's story, 100% of proceeds go to WWF. In addition to 16 free stories of amazing animals, you'll experience a 360-panoramic image of Earth from space on iPhone, play with digital water, and take and share a photo with the origami planet as part of #AppsforEarth.
Many of the apps have been updated to reflect the partnership with Apple and WWF, but some are also including exclusive content in addition to raising money for the organization. Popular camera app VSCO, for example, is introducing a limited edition WWF preset that "subtly enhances natural settings, and is ideal for landscapes & wildlife." Angry Birds 2 is also introducing a special level and spell into its campaign with an ocean conservation theme.

For more information on the work achieved by the World Wildlife Fund, check out its official website. More details on Apple's own participation in environmental protection is available on its website, as well.

I love animals, wildlife, and the environment, but I cannot forgive the World Wildlife Fund for robbing wrestling fans of the WWF. The professional wrestling that I grew up with died when they forced Vince McMahon to change his company's name.

Raising awareness for climate change and environmental issues is very important, so it is equally important to mention that the single greatest thing anyone can do for the environment is to go vegan. Current mainstream lifestyles are not sustainable. Animal agriculture is the leading cause of greenhouse gasses and it also uses up incredible amounts of water (California, are you listening?). Overfishing combined with massive amounts of pollution are causing vast dead zones in the oceans. We as a species and as a planet can not continue to live like this and expect our grandchildren and their children to have a safe planet in which to live.

I can't wait until something like this gets the okay for public consumption

Also, don't act as if plants don't require a fair share of water in California as well.

How can you tell if somebody's a vegan? Don't worry, they'll tell you.

"Single greatest thing anyone can do for the environment" — I think you've been sniffing too many of your own greenhouse gases.

I really don't give a rats behind about the WWF/E or wrestling in general. McMahon can kiss my hairy rear.

PS - I doubt Vince McMahon is his real name, but even so, it sounds more like a porn star name.

Reminds me of the phrase start-ups keep using in the show Silicon Valley "Making the world a better place"

Call me cynical, but I think an app promotion with environment/animal rights/world peace themes slapped on is not an effective way to actually raise awareness, it's a sales tactic with feel-good clichés spread on top.

Will it sell more apps? Yes, for sure. Will it prevent Nature from going down the drain? No, not at all.

I was raised in a Hindu household, not vegan per say, but a vegetarian.

So does that count? :D

Tell me about it, WWE is just not the same especially for those of us who grew up in the 'Attitude' era.

People like you are why I dislike Vegans; you make it sound like another religion, with your eco tears.

I never gave a toss about all the environmental garbage as I have and always will see it as a fantastic way to tax people and when greenplebs damaged Battersea power station and received no reprimand I was done.

You know who changed my mind, not some scaremongering, hipster, skinny jean wearing, vegan preaching false philosopher, it was a road sweeper he said I would love the day when I'm out of work because people give a dam, a simple yet powerful statement which earned him my respect and a change of attitude.

A non-preachy Vegan did even better, he arranged a night out where no smoking, alcohol, fizzy drinks or meat was allowed and we left well fed and happy, he did not preach to us about it once instead he asked us what our favourite meat was and order for us the closest alternative, top fella.

if you had came to me with all that eco-tear babble I would of ordered a double whopper with bacon out of spite!

Eat your heart out.

I love meat, and will enjoy eating burgers, steaks, sausages, beef, lamb, gammon, chicken and fish for as long as animals graze our fine earth.

It's the cycle of life.

[doublepost=1460656178][/doublepost]You must have missed the part where proceeds from the sales go to WWF....so it will help the issue. The sales of apps/etc not directly but it will help.

Bought the Khadgar mage hero in Hearthstone as part of the event. Available until April 24.
Thanks for the heads up, I didn't really read that closely, so this is great to see.

Sucks that it's time-limited, I hate stuff like that.
I'll consider getting it though.

Also, am I the only one who wants Sylvanas as hero?
It's about damn time!

I am a passionate conservationist and I do not make my purchasing decisions based on my political/social/religious views of the company.

BUT I am disappointed that they chose this group - they are part of the climate change push.
http://www.worldwildlife.org/initiatives/climate

Love how the use the polar bear on the melting piece of ice....exactly how they have lived and fished since the beginning - nothing to do with climate "change" (which for the record was global cooling in the 70's that launched earth day and then global warming and when the warming stopped they just settled on "change")

But I digress. Apple could not be further from my views politically, socially, but when is that new watch coming out????????
