Apple's special Black Friday shopping event is now live in the United States and Canada, offering customers free Apple Store gift cards worth up to $150 or CA$200 with the purchase of selected Apple products today only.

The offers are available through Apple's website and retail stores in both countries. Each customer is limited to two gift cards per product category. Refurbished products and educational store purchases do not qualify.

U.S. rebate amounts include:

- Macs: $150 (iMac, Mac Pro, MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro sans late 2016 models)
- iPad Pro: $100
- iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4: $50
- iPhone 6s and 6s Plus: $50
- iPhone SE: $25
- Apple Watch Series 1: $25
- Apple TV: $25

The one-day promotion is also ongoing in the United Kingdom (up to £120) and elsewhere in Europe, including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Apple's offers are rather lackluster considering better Black Friday deals are available on select iPhones, iPads, and Macs from authorized resellers such as B&H Photo Video and MacMall. Moreover, many of Apple's newest products such as the iPhone 7 and MacBook Pro with Touch Bar are not eligible for the gift card promotion.

The one-day shopping event has concluded in Australia and New Zealand, where it is now Saturday local time.

This would be fine if they had just surprised us. But teasing it a week out, keeping some of us from buying iphones or macbooks earlier...lame.

I had the Jet Black iphone pop up available near me a few days ago, and waited for the black friday sale. It's gone now.

If you are going to tease, and only do lame sales, just tell us what the sale is. Don't tease and keep it a mystery, and surprise us with crap. $25 off a series 1??? WOW.

I feel bad for all the people who have expressed interest in "the new MacBook Pro" that are going to get a circa-2012 model that Apple is inexplicably still selling. It must be so confusing for the average non-tech nerd to navigate. I miss the days when Apple would just discontinue a product when a new and better version was released.

Anyone knows if the gift cards can be used this same day In order to concatenate gifts and purchases? Thank you

Oh and by the way, the gift card has not an expire date, right?

Last I checked their website (10 minutes ago), they broke their check out. When you add an item that qualifies for a gift card, the price of the gift card adds to your total. Then the checkout bugs up, and as you try to move forward it says "Please refresh... bla bla... an item in your cart may qualify for a discount... bla bla". Every time I refresh, the gift card isn't discounted to $0. So, you can't buy anything!

Plus, I don't want to buy anything from them that they've discounted. It's all crap deals. The 2015 Macbook Pro discount isn't too bad, but I want a 2016 Macbook Pro. I would be all over a 2016 MBP with a $200 gift card! In a heartbeat. I'd save that $200 gift card and get an iPhone 7 later (my iPhone 5s is crapping out on me big time, battery went from decent to all of a sudden useless).

Way to spit in the face of people who wanted an iPhone 7 model or new Mac Book Pro w/ Touch Bar. Do it right or don't do it at all Apple.
So you expect them to discount products that are setting records and were just released.... why, exactly? They have no incentive to do so.

The funny thing is that even when taking the gift card value of your purchase into account, it still works out more expensive than before the price hike in the UK store.

Apple doesn't understand what value is. Too bad.
In fairness the pound has devalued a fair bit hence the increase in prices in the UK. £1 went from around $1.70 to as low as $1.21 and even now that it's performing a bit better it's still only at around $1.24.

As much as I'd appreciate better pricing in the UK I can't say I blame them when you consider just how far the pound has fallen.
