This is a good move for Apple. Apart from the obvious financial benefits, it'll help Apple move away from the 'computers for designers and fashionistas' stereotype which, surprisingly, still seems to be prevalent. Coupled with the inroads made in the sciences realm more businesses might consider the obvious benefits of OSX and Xserves/XSAN.

Maybe now Apple may be able to make inroads to the Federal desktop market. NIH has always been a good source of Mac sales.

Having worked for a federal computer reseller in a past life, we were always on the lookout for the "smoking gun" memos from higher ups that forbade their groups from buying anything but Windows boxes.

Just think how much money could be saved in support costs if the government went to the Mac.
