I don't see the added value of iMessage on Android.
The entire world is using WhatsApp already. (at least everyone in my world is... )
In the past, this could have been of value to co-operate with my Mac but since WhatsApp has it's own Mac desktop-application, that desire has faded away.

Cross-platform FaceTime, would be more interesting though. Although... Skype?

I wouldn't care entire world, as its mainly in Europe, Korea still uses kakao, China WeChat. FB Messenger is still used when you don't want to give out your number.

US iMessage and SMS is probably the most used. Anyways its preference, I rather use iMessage all the time, I don't like using WhatsApp.

I'm kinda confused as to why people think iMessage is so great, dont get me wrong I have no complaints with it but is there something different about it that sets it apart from other texting apps or just standard SMS messaging?

SMS costs money in most countries and extra charge if you text from overseas. SMS should be extinct in my opinion.

iMessage is pretty great, especially since they have their own appstore for it. But i really want it to come to android & windows.

I have to use android devices for testing and windows for half my work and my gaming rig, so it would be godsend if i don't have to constantly go on my Phone to reply back and just reply on my PC.

The minute iMessage goes to Android is the minute I start looking at how to get that new edge to edge display Xiami phone in the UK.

iMessage is the only thing keeping me tied to iOS at this point, everything else can be done on Android.
was going to say the same exact thing. iMessage is what keeps me because all of my friends have iPhones

"the degree to which iMessage's 'stickiness' is acting as the glue to help keep users loyal to iOS"

I'd personally prefer to see FaceTime supported on Android, since the only other option I'm aware of is Skype, which sucks.

You might try Google Duo, as it has worked really well from my Galaxy S7 to my plethora of Apple devices used by my family members. I was so happy to finally stop using Skype.

iMesssage became Apple's bubble, the big deal, reading the comments, is that iOS users think it's essential.

Apple is late too late. WhatsApp and other messages have the market on lockdown.

I guess Whatsapp is the closest. I don't know anyone on Android that doesn't have it.
I don't think I know anyone (iPhone or Android users) who don't have it.

If what's app also did SMS (like imessage) it'd be perfect. I don't know why it doesn't.

honestly if whatsapp did let you use it via tablets or macbooks/laptops i bet most would use it over imessage. i use whatsapp alot for mainly pics. Think some dislike it as it shows who has read your message.

Can somebody explain to me why iMessage is so popular and vital? Except for the bubble color difference, how is it different from SMS? Considering I open the same app and send the same message and it gracefully falls back to SMS if my contact doesn't have an Apple device, it all seems the same to me.

What am I missing?

It's popular because most people have iPhones which has iMessage and expanding it to Android would be another way of enticing users to iPhones despite the poor form of the Apple Music app. I'd rather use iMessage than WhatsApp on my Note5.

Everybody I know on iOS uses Hangouts. Plus, we don't get iMessage spam.
