Good evening…

Apple MAC OS 10.8.3 (Mountain Lion) operating system vs CanoScan LiDE 700F

Before upgrade to Mountain Lion our 7 year old scanner works fine.

After upgrade to Mountain Lion we consistently receive message: Scanner type no longer supported.

Apple Website states that CanoScan LiDE 700F is compatible with Mountain Lion.

Purchase CanoScan LiDE 700F and install. Scanner functions as advertised using Image Capture process.

However. Every time the computer goes to sleep or is idle for an extended period Message "Scanner reported an error. An error occurred while communicating with the scanner."

Help line was notified, rep could not resolve the issue.

Apple store in Ft Worth was made aware of the issue late January.

Web site research finds the following suggested solution; after waking computer disconnect USB cable and reconnect, computer will reestablish communication with scanner.

Following this suggestion scanner is fully functional.

Why must this be done each time the computer goes to sleep?

Two updates later, problem persists.

Went back to Apple store. Was advised, not aware of issue, however a solution would probably be forthcoming via an update.

Come on guys/gals, Apple needs to fix this. After 30 years peripheral sharing should not be a mystery anymore,

When can we expect a solution.

I'm a rolling stone.
Erm, that's not Apple's fault, Canon should update the driver, not Apple.

Oh, and how long do you think it should be before an OS drops compatibility, yours is 7 years old!

Check out Vuescan. It is a little expensive, but well worth it if you do a fair bit of scanning. The $80 pro version has lifetime updates and can be installed on 4 machines. You can download a trail version to see if it works.(it worked with all the Canon LIDEs I tried) but it will watermark the images. The developer is very active with updates.

OP, This is a User to User forum. No Apple managers here to help you ;)
