    Can send, can't receive emails

On G5, Panther (bugs everywhere almost like down south).

Latest upcropping: Out of the blue (like suddenly) I can't send emails. Here's a clue: the error prompt tells me:

    >This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
Verify that you have addressed this message correctly. Check your SMTP server settings in Mail Preferences and verify any advanced settings with your system administrator<

Ignor the address part, and pray tell, what does the rest of it tell you. Be prepared to drill through wood--I'm no techie. By the way, I haven't changed anything about these setting to have caused the problem.

    Thanks, Jack Chandler

Could be several things. One thing i've had happen is that my ISP suddenly started requiring authentication of the STMP server, which was a surprise. Try enabling this, go to Mail Preferences, click on Accounts, then click your account name. At the bottom of the pane, you'll see "Outgoing Server..." click Server Settings, change authentication to "Password", and enter your username/password (for your ISP, not your computer). If that doesn't work, undo it and post back here.

    Paul,
Below is the alert that followed the changes you suggested:
    >Verify that you have addressed this message correctly. Check your SMTP server settings in Mail Preferences and verify any advanced settings with your system administrator.

The server response was: not local host networktel.net, not a gateway

You can try to send using a different server. All messages will use this server until you quit or change your network settings.<

Not sure of the password though. The guy who set this up for me is not available to confirm the password. So there is some chance it is rejecting my best quess (at the password in server settings). In addition, I attempted to change the password in the 1st (account info) window. Not sure I haven't screwed this up.

Any ideas? Beginning to feel like a classic FUBAR.
