I just restored my computer with an erase and install, and I made a Carbon Copy on my external hard drive. Is there any way I can get all of my mail and settings (mail servers and accounts) back into mail so that I do not have to set them all up again. Also, I know the mail is stored in the library in my users folder, but I cant seem to find where I import the settings and mailboxes from.

My impression is that if you copy the entire ~/library/mail folder over to the analogous place on the new Mac (while Mail.app is NOT running), you should get everything you need. Did you try that already, and did it not work?

That gets all the mail and deleted items, but now, I have no POP accounts set up. Is there a configuration file that I can copy to this directory and have everything get transferred with it? I had a bunch of mailboxes, so it would take a very long time to recover all of the accounts manually.

Try also copying over com.apple.mail.plist from the ~/library/preferences directory (again, while Mail is not running).

wouldn't it work to just download all of your mail via POP3 or IMAP?

If it's an IMAP account, where all mail is stored on the server, yes.

If it's a POP account, where mail is downloaded and deleted immediately or at a later time, no.

In Tiger...mmm...you're supposed to do the back up database option. But since you cannot, try copying the entire ~/library/application support/addressbook/ and also these three plist files in ~/library/preferences/ if they exist:

    com.apple.AddressBook.plist
    com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist
    AddressBookMe.plist

Now that I think of it.

I'll just boot from the EX HD itself.
