Apple Releases First OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan Beta to Public Beta Testers

Apple today seeded the first beta of an upcoming OS X 10.11.4 beta to public beta testers, just a few days after releasing the first OS X 10.11.4 beta to developers and more than a month after releasing OS X 10.11.2.

The new beta is available through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store for those who are enrolled in Apple's beta testing program. Those wishing to join the program can sign up on Apple's beta testing website.

OS X 10.11.4 has been provided to developers and public beta testers alongside OS X 10.11.3, which is also currently in testing. Apple has provided testers with two betas of OS X 10.11.3, and it could be released to the public shortly.

Both OS X 10.11.3 and OS X 10.11.4 appear to focus largely on under-the-hood bug fixes, security enhancements, and performance optimizations with few noticeable outward-facing changes. OS X 10.11.4 does support password protected notes in the Notes app, allowing a password to be assigned to individual notes.

So um Apple is woking on 10.11.4 yet Apple hasn't released the finished 10.11.3 update yet. Hmm seems about right.

I assume you actually mean 10.11.4 and 10.11.3? And yes, that's perfectly normal. They are also working on at least 10.12 and iOS 10 as we will see it at WWDC and developers will have betas available shortly after.

10.11.3 - Was the reason that I decided to NEVER again install a Beta of OS X. I completely HOSED my computer.
I KNOW that such CAN happen with a beta. Hence beta. However, in my 20 years of beta testing I have not had ONE single software (from a LOT of developers) hosing down my mojo.

OS X - IMO - has become the incarnation of INSTABILITY !

Still no USB fixe for iMac 27 Late 2015, USB external drive only works in port 1 nearest the power connector, and all my new lexar card readers don't function amongst other usb devices, i cant believe they fixed this in the previous stable release and then broke it again in the new beta!

You can blame apple's obsession with iOS and their complete disregard for OS X.
 
Just installed the public 10.11.4 beta and it turned off TRIM for my Crucial SSD, had to run the trimforce command again to get it back on. Hopefully this isn't a sign that Apple are going back on their TRIM support.

If I knew that I would be smiling ;-)

The day after New Years Eve, I hit Update (to 10.11.3) The Mac did the update and as it wanted to boot... It would NEVER get past the boot-bar on the black screen. I tried for two days, using ALL knowledge I have gathered over 20 years with Mac, read Google ETC ETC ETC... The screen stayed black.

I had to backup and init the disk... And during re-backup given the fact that ANYONE using USB3 with a Retina MacBook Pro is living on a VERY dangerous edge where the OS is likely to just throw-out the USB3 drive WHENEVER it so pleases and in such a case EVEN destroy the Partion ---- OS X DID destroy my Volume. More precisely, it destroyed the EFI Partition. Anyway, I WAS able to (wasting 5 days) reconstruct ALL my data with the wonderful tool called Disk Drill.

So DUE to the 10.11.3 " UPDATE " I LOST about 2 weeks of work.

In the wake of this, I dumped ALL my USB3 drive and swapped them for Thunderbolt which I in my experience has NEVER exhibited SUCH issues.

I LIKE El Capitan and the idea of it. It IS a truly amazing OS. Only it is FAR from stable. If only Apple would fix what is IN the bug-reports, the OS would come back and mirror stability which I as OS X user (Until Mavericks) has gotten accustomed to... But by the release of a major upgrade every year, Apple is doing nothing but making their developers AND users Angry and FORCING them to STOP installing their beta software. Which is VERY BAD for bugs !!!
 
I hope they fix safari eventually. It has been so buggy for the past couple of releases that I can't even use it anymore. I like to use top sites and it works for awhile but then stops responding to input and I have to quit the whole browser to get it to respond again

.... mine does that .. but its caused by adobe flash quietly crashing in the back ground .. if you force quit the dying adobe process it recovers ... doesn't do this in chrome .. annoying !

You hosed your computer lol? Found that quite funny. I wish I could just get a hose and spray water on my computer to get rid of junk.

But in seriousness, there have been an increase in bugs on OS X for the past few years.

I was thinking of trying it till I read your post. Apple responded to my case on this and they couldn't get their machines to see this issue with several thumb drives. I wish I knew what was going on with this. It's almost like they have some ongoing testing of some new usb protocol and then pull it just at the release. Either that or you and I and maybe a couple others are very unlucky.

PLEASE submit a bug report under your Apple account. They do read them apparently.

It sounds like a whitelist will follow (for compatible SSDs). Btw, i think the kernel in 10.11.4 is for new Macs (Skylake February/March 2016) and 10.11.4 contains additional software features which are compatible with newer iOS versions.
