I need a cell phone and I am supposed to get one this week. However, I just saw the article about the apple phone and how it could be released on 9/12. Should I wait or are the chances of the phone showing up low?

Secondly, how expensive do you predict the phone will be? If its $200+ I'll have to wait anyway since I don't have enough money anyways.

I don't think it's going to be released 9/12. I think the 9/12 thing is unreleated to the cellphone.

My read of the analyst thing is that the phone prob won't be out in 2006.

I don't think it will be unveiled on the 12th?

I wouldn't count on it being anywhere near 200 dollars, it is an Apple product remember.

My rzr cost me something like 400 bucks, and it is in no way as feature rich as an apple phone would be.

No point in waiting for Apple phone coz there`s no way it`ll be launched before 3-4 months atleast. The article only mentions that the design for iPhone has been finalised but it`ll still take atleast 3-4 months(minimum) to have any chance of actual launch. It`ll take atleast 6-8weeks for apple to get the FCC approval for apple to launch a cell phone in USA. So technically the chances of iPhone showing up on 9/12 are second to zero IMHO.

Here`s what I read on iLounge

What do you mean by need? Your contract is up, or your phone is crapping out?

My cellphone contract ran out in March and I am holding out to find out what is going on with the Apple phone. I don't want to sign a new contract because if Apple goes with a different carrier I don't want to have to buyout of my contract.

If you were able to buy a phone outright, suchas on eBay or something, and not sign a contract, then you can do whatever you want when Apple's phone debuts...
