Apple today released the third update to tvOS, the operating system designed to run on the fourth-generation Apple TV. tvOS 9.1.1 is a minor update that likely includes bug fixes and performance updates to address issues discovered since the launch of tvOS 9.1, which was released to the public in December of 2015.

The new 9.1.1 update can be downloaded over the air through the Settings app on the Apple TV by going to System --> Software Update. Those who have automatic software updates turned on will be upgraded to the new 9.1.1 operating system automatically.

tvOS 9.1.1 is available a month and a half after the release of tvOS 9.1. Like the first minor tvOS update, tvOS 9.0.1, tvOS 9.1.1 focuses on under-the-hood improvements, but it does introduce one major change -- a new Podcasts app for the Apple TV.

tvOS 9.1.1 comes as Apple is testing the second major update to the tvOS operating system, tvOS 9.2. Apple has thus far seeded one beta of tvOS 9.2 to developers, which includes new features like support for Bluetooth keyboards, app folders, a revamped app switcher, and more.

The Apple Store demo units had the Podcast App on them from launch day. I wonder why they held it back from the public release version so long.

Siri no longer works for me, nor does my iPhone connect to my car's Bluetooth. But hey, let's fix the podcast app on the tv.

Hoping this fixes the Home Sharing Play Count bug... Will update when I find out if it does or not. :p

    EDIT: It does not. Urgh.

I ask it here... I got a few external Hard Drives with media on it, and I got infuse on the ATV4. What would be a good (and cheap) way to share the media via wifi ? Unfortunately my Airport Express does not allow me to do that.

I'm hoping for an update so I can mark my cloud videos as watched, so I don't have to scroll through 8 seasons of a show before finding the latest episode. That's my only real complaint about the new ATV vs the last gen version.

I would like to see improvements in bluetooth controller performance. Currently having some intermittent issues with getting a controller to initialize and with input lag during gaming.

Can anyone confirm this fixes the Siri remote's inability to IR control the volume on Pioneer recievers?

I hope they fix the old one to work with 1366x768 TVs. I love my new Apple TV 4, but this weekend I wanted to hook up the old Apple TV 3 to an old display that I have in our guest bedroom. Ended up having to use my Elgato capture box to get it to work properly through some kind of special scaling wizardry. I don't use my capture box very often any more, so I can just go grab it if I need to use it.

The USB-C port should allows users to connect an external drive to it and have videos playback natively without the need of a wireless connection to another computer.

Why Apple hasn't done this already is stupid.

Is anyone going to attempt a hack of it?

I'm with you on this one. Its very annoying that you can't set shows as "watched"

I had an issue with Siri. Took it to the Apple Store and found there was a bug. To fix it I had to set up my phone as new.

VLC media player on the Apple TV, low cost PC running Ubuntu Server. That's my plan, anyway.

Because Apple doesn't support illegal activities. YES ripping DVDs you own is illegal.

When will Apple learn to use it's own App Store for things we don't all need? Is there really a need to update the whole OS for a App now a days? Keep it simple, Apple!

I actually had an issue with my receiver as well and AppleCare sent me a new Siri remote after we ended up restoring the AppleTV and it still kept happening. My issue was the volume kept raising itself without me pressing the button. It only happened when the remote was aimed at the TV. When I got the new remote it still kept happening. Turns out I setup the receiver and tv the wrong way. Idk about your receiver but if it supports HDMI CEC/AnyNet+/ARC or whatever the manufactuer calls it, you're better off taking some time to make sure it was setup correctly, cables too. Could have saved me a lot of frustration getting freaked by the jump in volume all the time.
