In a bit of a surprise prediction, Apple may use its upcoming September 9 event to introduce the iPad Air 2 along with the iPhone 6 and iWatch, claims KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a research report released today. That plan would differ from Apple's announcement schedules in recent years that have seen the company unveil the iPhone in September and the iPad in October at a second press event.

According to Kuo, Apple is preparing modest upgrades primarily for the iPad Air and not the iPad mini, because the larger iPad is more popular among consumers. While the iPad Air 2 is said to carry several improvements, including an anti-reflective display as previously rumored, the second-generation Retina iPad mini may receive only Touch ID support.
While Kuo doesn't address whether the updated iPad Air will be thinner than the current model, a recent report from Digitimes claimed the device will indeed be thinner, and a laminated display could help Apple shave a small amount from the device's thickness.

Kuo claims that the anti-reflective display and full lamination will push back availability of the iPad Air 2 until October due to production issues with this new display. This delay may be fairly immaterial, however, as Kuo predicts iPad sales will continue to lag due to tablet market dynamics that see customers retaining their older iPad models instead of upgrading.

Kuo has been among the most accurate analysts regarding Apple's product plans, having been first to correctly peg a number of features and launches over the past several years. He has, however, had some misses and so it will be interesting to see if his iPad predictions pan out.

The only really apparent flaw is the lack of ram...

This seems to be the time of the year when all the crazies come out. So much of what is in this article doesn't make any sense and it certainly doesn't match Apple's patterns.

Anti reflective? That would be something... The iPad is absolutely useless outside on a bright day...

Many times I've sat on my patio and propped up my iPad on a stand and wanted to watch a baseball game or the World Cup this year, and i was basically looking at my ugly mug not the content on the screen. It got to the point where i put the iPad away and brought my Lenovo X220 laptop with a matte display and all was well.

I would definitely be interested in this.

256GB and longer battery life, please. Well, the battery life now is already pretty good, so just the 256GB.

if Apple wants people to upgrade their iPads they need to start pushing the complexity of software up. There really isn't anything that I can do on my iPad air that I can't do (or is painfully slow) on my iPad 3. They have been bumping the specs every year but nothing seems to take advantage of it anyway

Less reflections would actually make for a great upgrade IMO.

makes kinda sense. what would they even talk about. iOS8 will be out by then and everyone knows about the touch id from the iphone. a keynote just to show off a slightly thinner ipad with an gold opgion would be kinda pointless especially if they do announce the iwatch next week

+1 I use the iPad for reading scripts -- sometimes outside -- and would upgrade in a heartbeat if they introduced a matte screen or finish. Otherwise, not upgrading my Air for 2 years :)

If they announce Air 2, surely they need to announce Mini 3.

Since anti-glare is an option, it leads me to believe there would be a 'pro' version coming along also. Outdoors, and on-the-go, professionals, doctors, contractors, photographers, movie sets, etc. really need anti-glare.

iPad Air 2 at September Event? So, what’s coming in October?
Retina MacBook Airs? Intel Core M chips are ready just in time.
    New Apple TV, finally?
