After releasing OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4 to the public in early June, Apple has seeded the first beta of OS X 10.8.5, Build 12F9, to developers. According to 9to5Mac, Apple has also seeded the 10.8.5 beta to its Retail Team.

Apple also released a developer preview of OS X Mavericks last week, which is expected to be released to the public this fall.

The update is available through the software update tool in the Mac App Store and Apple's Developer Page.

I just assumed everyone was on 10.9 already.

A Combo update will update from any 10.8.x version to 10.8.5. And a Delta (or point) update is from 10.8.4 to 10.8.5.

For any other season, I would agree with you. For fall, that puts it at a real bad time to release software due to the holidays. I am guessing September/October for Mavericks release.

    Delta: you need 10.8.4
Combo: you can install in any version of 10.8

What are the things Apple is asking developers to focus on in the 18.8.5 seed?

    Interesting assumption.

A trifle myopic...some of us choose to wait for the GM.

Yeah it was more of a sarcasm. I have no idea what trifle myopic means, I'm gonna have to hit the dictionary. ABL! Always be learning!

Hope this fixes the sleep issues I have with my new iMac, loosing network drives after waking from deep sleep. Also USB drives being disconnected unexpectedly after waking up.

I saw an invitation to buy new Macbook pro in mailbox. This update consolidates new graphics driver from Intel, AMD, and NVidia present in 10.9. Of special interest here may be the Intel Iris Pro HD5200.

Any update on ML's shutdown speed with 10.8.5? Is it snappier?

e.g. Lion had fast shutdown speed, so why can't Mountain Lion have similar or slightly slower shutdown than Lion - e.g. Lion shuts down in 2-3 seconds whereas Mountain Lion shuts down in 20-30 seconds. No matter what people say about the time needed to shutdown lots of processes, it does not explain why Mountain Lion's shutdown is so much longer than Lion's.
