Apple today seeded the fourth beta of an upcoming macOS Sierra update to developers and public beta testers for testing purposes, one week after seeding the third beta and three weeks after releasing the new macOS Sierra operating system to the public.

macOS Sierra 10.12.1 beta 4 can be downloaded from the Apple Developer Center or through the Software update mechanism in the Mac App Store for those who already have an earlier 10.12.1 beta installed.

macOS Sierra 10.12.1 appears to focus on bug fixes and under-the-hood performance improvements to address issues that have been found since the operating system's release, and it's also likely adding features designed for next-generation MacBook Pro models set to be released later this year.

Few outward-facing changes were discovered in the first three betas, but it does include Photos support for the new iPhone 7 Plus Portrait feature introduced with iOS 10.1. New features discovered in the fourth 10.12.1 beta will be listed below.

macOS Sierra is a significant update that brings features like Siri support, a new storage optimization option, cross device copy paste, auto unlocking with the Apple Watch, and more. For full details on macOS Sierra, make sure to check out our roundup.

Haven't yet made the leap to Sierra on my main machine (2013 MacBook Air). It's my production machine and I don't want to face the downtime of having to install all of my development tools again (MacPorts requires re-installation for each new major version of the OS because it has a different architecture signature).

Am I missing anything useful? Have you noticed a performance improvement over El Capitan?

Quite a large build number jump from beta 3. I expect that means there's stuff for the new macs buried in this build.

Really hoping this is the latest beta and next Tuesday we'll see the final release together with invites being sent out for the MacBools, if not then October seems unlikely for the event since I imagine they'll need at least a week to load them onto the machines and get 'em shipping'

Remember when Apple used to make computers? So sad those days have passed. Been waiting a year for an updated MBP and will probably have to give up and buy a PC instead. Sad tears.

I mean, just wait a couple weeks. How bad do you need one? And why does it seem like everyone here needs a new Mac every 3 years? My 2007 MBP lasted all the way until 2013. I'm now using a 2013 rMBP, everything maxed out and I don't see myself buying a new Mac until at least 2020. What else could I possibly need?

They are waiting for London Regent Street refurb to be completed. It will be the global flagship. After it opens again on the 15th you will see a release of new products.

I'm still on the 2007!

It's been a fantastic machine, but it's time to update, that's why i'm desperate for something to happen! :)

You're not missing anything, believe me. I have top-end iMac with SSD, and Sierra so far is nothing but slowing down, freezings on sleep/wake and 3rd party software compatibility issues. I suggest everyone to wait at least for 10.12.1 or even 10.12.2

Really, you can wait another month!! I too have been waiting a while. My MBP 17 inch has seen better days.
