My buddy bought a 1.5GHz PowerBook G4 new in the box from the Apple Store 5 years ago and it came with a 45w ac adapter... I was always under the impression that PowerBooks needed 65w chargers?

I know one time my battery died on my PowerBook and I tried a 45w charger and it wouldn't even start up.

If he bought it 5 years ago I assume he's been using it and charging with it, no? Are you just now getting around to asking? Bet your "friend" is pissed at your procrastination! :D
But anyway, it was 45w. http://macwizards.com/acfinder/#aluminum12

The MacBook Pros need 65W adaptors (or higher).

The 15" shipped with 65w. 45w with the 12". Although 45w was sufficient, just would take longer to charge.
