Apple will soon introduce a redesigned version of its dedicated Apple Store app, reports Bloomberg. The new version of the app, which is used to make online purchases of Apple products, will feature custom recommendations for new products to buy based on purchase history.

Citing sources with knowledge of Apple's plans, Bloomberg's report says Apple is likely to include a dedicated "For You" tab in the Apple Store app, mirroring the "For You" sections of the Apple Music and Apple News apps. This tab will offer up purchase suggestions "based on prior orders."

The current Apple Store app, while outfitted with general product recommendations displayed in the "Featured" tab, does not give customers personalized suggestions on what to purchase. It is not known why Apple is making the shift, but it's likely being done in an effort to introduce customers to new products they would not otherwise discover.
The shift toward using recommendations would mark a change for Apple, where privacy concerns have traditionally usurped efforts to use customer-behavior data to garner more revenue. While its music-streaming and news apps also recommend tracks and stories, they primarily do so based on interests that customers have chosen to declare. Amazon and Alphabet Inc.'s Google, meanwhile, regularly mine a user's prior tastes and purchases to generate business by recommending complementary products.
Apple plans to introduce its redesigned Apple Store app in the near future, perhaps within the next two weeks. It will be a universal app that works on both the iPhone and the iPad.

For what purpose? You don't buy an Apple product every day.

Some idiot is trying to find a way to make even more money & thinks that ramming products down our throats is a great idea. It never is...

It'll probably recommended that you add some lighting to 3.5mm adapters to your cart when those 10 people order iPhone 7....

And retro computing books when you order a Mac...

Sorry to post yet another grumpy opinion to anyone fed up with them, but I'm already getting sick of the phrase 'For You'. It's not a big deal, but it's just not for me.

I don't really like online suggestions based on prior anything... purchases, searches... I prefer to see a default, (curated by humans is fine), with some options for customisation where appropriate. But I find algorithm-based suggestions annoyingly shallow on an annoyingly frequent basis. No Apple/Amazon/Google, I don't want to buy every album ever recorded by that one artist because I bought one song by them once. Or maybe I already own it all on a different format from a different store? You don't know me and my every action (and I don't want you to) so you base your suggestions on incomplete, insufficient data, which I no have inclination or desire to add to or complete For You!

Well said.

I'm so tired of For You recommendations. They're so stupid. If I've just bought some lightbulbs from Amazon, I don't need or want to be told of some other lightbulbs that I might be interested in. I've just bought them, idiots! Music is one area where it can work well, but it doesn't extrapolate well to hardware.

I'm sure people in 100 years will look back on our age as being particularly blinkered when it comes to recommendations and advertising.

I love the Apple Store App. It's my go to for hardware orders and gift cards. It's quicker and more condensed then using the Apple desk top page.

Really? I find it a pain in the arse to use. It's too clever for its own good. Why do all the tabs and menus have to disappear all the time? I find it slow and clunky, the very opposite of the Apple that Steve Jobs built.

In between a rock and a hard place
For you: a two year old Mac Mini, since we noticed you bought one in Feb 2014.
For you: a brand spanking new 3 year old Mac Pro. We even kept the price the same. No increase whatsoever! If you hurry, you may be able to get one of the last sweet, sweet Thunderbolt displays. Quantities may be limited. Only $1000.

Posted this cuz I'm pissy about the mac mini

There aren't enough products in their store to be reliable enough.

What I really want is to buy a Macbook Pro 2016.

I doubt the Store will be recommending that for a while... if ever.

Perhaps the Apple Store app can recommend Apple to release such hardware?

While they're at it they should probably redesign some of their products and release some cool new ****, its been a while. Honestly, I know the company is making money but the fact that macrumors is reporting on an apple store app update...who honestly gives a ****?
