Well, I received a refurbished 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo Macbook on Friday (so I've had it 5 days!) from Apple. It looks brand new and up until last evening was performing brilliantly. Then, the Finder froze. No amount of 'relaunching' Finder brought it back .... so I powered down and restarted. Kernel panic. And from then on in, the system wouldn't get past the White Apple splash screen without a kernel panic. I've tried everything from re-seating the RAM, resetting PRAM and Apple Hardware Test (which it passed). It won't even boot from the Install Disc 1 so I could try and repair the disc (if that's what's wrong).

I have a genius bar appointment for this afternoon at my local Apple Store.

    - Anyone been in a similar situation with a refurb unit with problems this early ? Do all refurb units require send back to Apple ?
    - Does the problem sound like it could be a particular hardware/software problem that someone's experienced in the past with a Macbook?

    Thanks in advance

Thanks for the quick response ... puts my mind at rest a bit - sounds like OS X has tied itself in a bit of a knot then.
