Near the end of today's keynote at the Worldwide Developers Conference that included a first look at iOS 8 among other things, Apple revealed what iOS devices will be compatible with its new mobile operating system this fall. That list included the iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPod touch 5th generation, iPad 2, iPad with Retina Display, iPad Air, iPad Mini, and iPad mini with Retina Display.

Notably missing from the list is the iPhone 4, which saw compatibility with iOS 7 last year and even saw improved performance with iOS 7.1. Apple restarted iPhone 4 production for countries including Brazil, India and Indonesia earlier this year, but the device will likely be now be discontinued again in the near future.

iOS 8 will launch this fall with revamped notification features, a new QuickType keyboard that adds predictive typing suggestions, an enhanced Messages app, a new Healthkit app that aggregates health-related metrics, improvements to Siri, and many more features.

It makes sense, the iPhone4 didn't really provide a good experience under iOS7.

Well, it barely has any RAM to execute apps, so why even bother trying to get it to work? it would be mediocre at least.

Overdue. iPhone 4 shouldn't have got iOS 7.

That's a bit provocative wouldn't you say? I'm sure they still support it, just won't bring iOS8 to it.

What about iPad 3? Is it included in iPad with Retina Display?

Sensible. It also makes sense, given that the iPhone 4 is no longer available.

I figured, with all this concurrency focus in iOS 8. Probably more taxing on the system regardless how you do it. Well, it had a great run. A truly impressive phone at the time of release.

Considering the iPad 2 is supported, I'd say the newer model should be fine...

I guess he's saying that he has an iPhone 4 so won't be able to utilise the feature?

I hope to get an iPhone 6 in the fall... here is hoping my iP4 holds on over the summer.

Feels kind of strange to have used it this long, and heck, I just upgraded my iPad 1 a couple of months ago to an Air!

Oh, and I still haven't put iOS7 on it. I need too though, just haven't gotten there yet.

Phew! My 4S has a bit more life left. They'll have to drag me kicking and screaming away from this form factor.

iPhone 4 doesn't support AirDrop period, even iDevice to iDevice.
