Apple has plans to increase App Store retail prices for several countries over the next 24 hours, citing changes in foreign exchange rates. Prices will go up for the Australian Dollar, Indian Rupee, Indonesian Rupiah, Turkish Lira and South African Rand.

Retail prices for Israeli New Shekels and some pricing tiers for the New Zealand Dollar will be decreased, however.

According to an email sent out to developers, the new pricing will go into effect within 24 hours. Apple has done price adjustments on App Store and iTunes rates several times in the past, in order to compensate for changes in foreign exchange rates.

(Thanks, Patrick!)

While price rises are never welcome, these will only be modest increases and it's reasonable for Apple to pass these onto consumers in these markets with weak currencies. I support this move.

Agreed, I have a feeling someone will come in and say that Apple should absorb those costs because they have zillions of dollars!

Even when the Aussie dollar was above parity with the US dollar the Aussie prices on the App Store were 20-30% higher than the US

As a New Zealander, I like this.

Although it's currently April 1 here, so I'm just waiting till tomorrow... :)

I wouldnt be too smug about it, the South Pacific Peso (NZD) will be back on its way down soon enough :p

I support this move.

Thats because you have a history of supporting everything and anything Apple do.

The Canadian dollar has fallen just as much as the Australian dollar....why arent they getting a price adjustment?

The Aussie prices have only changed once, and that was back in 2011 when the prices were brought down because of the strong Aussie Dollar. Whilst we were greater than parity for a while, the prices on the store were not 20-30% higher, they were at most 11% higher, with it on average 6% higher e.g.:

Weak currencies? The Australian currency is not classified as weak and is one of the top seven traded currencies in the world. There is currently only 8 cent difference between the USD and the AUD. Which is already reflected in the price differences.

I didn't see Australian App Store prices change during the years when the AUD was on par with the USD when they were going the their huge economical slump.

The great thing about living in New Zealand is we don't have arrogant ockers.

"The term "ocker" is used both as a noun and adjective for an Australian who speaks and acts in an uncultured manner"

Christ, you were almost funny.

Shame the value of $US is the thing that is tanking against most currencies.

Pass it on? Apple's costs aren't increasing.

Choice eh bro!! I wouldn't be proclaiming New Zealand as any less bogan than Australia and trust me, the bogan culture is alive and well in this country too.

You might not have ockers but you do have all those lovely woolly sheep to keep you "company" on those cold winters nights. :D

"Modest"

They pushed up the South African prices by 40% overnight.
