No, they'll never sell that many--according to those analysts who have decided that Apple's largest iPod reseller--HP--is not to be counted. Apparently HP is a competitor, and the Apple iPod from HP is stealing marketshare from Apple! ;)

They will surely surpass the 2 million number they made last quarter, and since their Q1 is the holiday quarter, who knows. I don't think Apple really cares if analysts count the HP number of not-Apple is still profiting and includes those sold in their total number.

That's a bizarre, non-round number 2,870,000 iPods – that sound's like someone has leaked how many iPods Apple can produce and someone has predicted that Apple can sell 100% of them.

Personally, I have a feeling that somehow Apple will exceed this, and I'm betting on 3.2 million for the quarter.

Then there may be some disappointed individuals if Apple can't increase production to meet that demand. Having the iPod for Mac & PC makes all the difference.
