we in norway use PAL. wil the US apple TV work in norway? does it support PAL?

appletv needs a television with hdmi input and capable of displaying 720p. pal and ntsc doesn't matter anymore. 720p is neither pal nor ntsc.

Technically true, but PAL and NTSC are still used as shorthand for 50Hz and 60Hz signals and that still matters. The question of whether the Apple TV can run at 720p50 or only 720p60 is an interesting one, especially if you have a mixture of 25fps and 24/30fps content.

So if I buy an Apple TV2 in NY and take it back to the UK with me it should work fine?

It'll almost certainly work, because almost all HDTVs sold in the UK do 720p at both 50Hz and 60Hz. If you play 25/50fps content you may see some slightly juddering, but that might be the case even on UK-based Apple TVs.

Hmmmmm....... this could be the cause of a lot of people complaining about the Apple Tv stuttering.

There are some discussions in the Apple support forums, about this issue (problems when playing PAL material on the new ATV2).

I am in the same boat, I am traveling to US next week and wanted to buy a ATV2 for the wife, she loves downloading films from a Russian site (she is Ukrainian). Until now, she watches them on my iMac, it would be nice if she could watch them on our TV. But I am afraid that since the material is PAL (probably?! I am not an expert on these things) it will not play well with ATV2.

I need to check out TV specs if it can play @ 60 Hz which is the standard ATV2 seems to understand.
