    Hi all,

I have tried to search the forums before making this post, but have so far been unable to find the answer to my query.

I have been using Handbrake (iPhone preset) for a while to rip my DVD's to enable viewing on my iPhone.

Recently i purchased Apple TV. Reviewing the preset descriptions on Handbrake, the Apple TV one says that it works on iPhone's too... so I duly started using the Apple TV preset to rip my DVD's. I thought this had worked perfectly as I was able to watch the movies on my iPhone.

Today I have tried to watch one of these movies on my Apple TV. I get a great picture, but NO sound. I have noticed that on all movies ripped using the Apple TV preset in Handbrake, the same issue applies. All of these movie files WILL play in iTunes (inc sound) but not on Apple TV. Interestingly however, all movies that were previously ripped using iPhone preset DO work on Apple TV. Also, all music, you tube, tv etc DO work in their current configuration. This is purely to do with Handbrake Ripped Apple TV preset?

I imagine that this is to do with the type of sound encoding that Handbrake uses for Apple TV preset, but I have been unable to decipher from the other forums, what part of this is wrong - hence the question.

My Apple TV is connected via HDMI to the TV, but via Optical to a Denon amp. Is there a problem with the HDMI connection and that the Apple TV wants to send sound through this route only when watching these movies?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm reluctant to re-rip these movies if at all avoidable!?

    Many thanks in advance...

My guess is the HDMI and the optical at the same time.

if I remember right - the iphone preset only has the AAC file - not AAC and AC3, where as AppleTV includes both. I'm guessing it's sending AC3 out and doesn't know if to send to HDMI or optical. Try eliminating 1 if possible and test it out.
