still a shame, they didn't match up the 13" air display to the 13" MBP....still stuck with 1280x800...

The only thing good about the bump is the nVidia GeForce GT650M. It looks promising for people who want to game. On the old model, the 6770 works fine on the 1440x900 screen that I have, but I bet on higher resolutions, it takes a hit. With the bump, I guess gaming should be quite smooth on 1680x1050.

Oh, and the higher frequency RAM I guess was added just to make the old 1333 Hz RAM obsolete, especially that the 16GB SODIMMs had become cheap.

Did you guys notice, Apple online store does not allow you to upgrade the previous model Macbook Pro memory to 16GB...

It only provides the option for Next-gen Macbook Pro (Retina)

I think we can say it's quite official,
Apple is a mass-market company and not Pro company.

And the moment they actually say "We are no longer a niche company for education or creative outlets" will be an interesting day indeed.

Apple has the better OS, but some choices of recent (e.g. melding in iOS functions that will never be used by many/most, ignoring the Mac Pro for so long, etc) have been upsetting.

i can't see the reason to get a mbp 13" anymore. the resolution is lower than mba 13"

even though the pricing is the same. i can't justify slightly higher computing power over portability

Faster processor speed over a Flash HD seems like the reason to me. Plus anybody that still cares about a Super Drive.

13" MBA

1.8 GHz i5 4GB RAM 128 GB Flash HD- $1199
8 GB RAM add $100
No Super Drive

13" MBA

1.8 GHz i5 4 GB RAM 256 GB Flash HD - $1499
2.0 GHz i7 add $100
8 GB RAM add $100
512 GB Flash HD add $500

13" MBP

2.5 GHz i5 4GB RAM 500 GB Non Flash HD - $1199
8GB RAM add $100
750 GB HD add $100
128 GB Solid State HD add $200
256 GB Solid State HD add $500
Super Drive

13" MBP

2.9 GHz i7 8GB RAM 750 GB Non Flash HD - $1499
1 TB Non Flash HD add $100
128 GB Flash HD add $100
256 GB Flash HD add $400
Super Drive

The 2nd and 4th options seem the most obvious to me in terms of difference.

$1499 for the lighter, thinner, 256 GB flash HD option, but only a 1.8 GHz i5 and 4 GB RAM.

Or $1499 for a slightly bigger and heavier (though much thinner than previous MBP) option with a 2.9 GHz i7, 8GB RAM, but a 750 GB regular HD.

I'd easily go with the latter.

The cooling capacity of the MBA's chassis precludes any standard-voltage CPUs (35W TDP) that the 13" MBP uses, ofc the MBAs will be slower simply because there isn't much thermal headroom to Turbo with.
