Apple iPod and iPhone business is no different then Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo's console business. I guess you need to do something about them also because maybe I want to play halo on my playstation. Even these guys are offering downloads online now which you can only get through their dashboards. This article is just stupid.

David Coursey is just jealous of the idiot credentials of Roger Kay and Rob Enderle, and trying really hard to catch up.

No doubt he was a staunch defender of Microsoft and Internet Explorer ten years ago.

HA this guys has lost his marbles

What? You can't do business anymore in this country without someone saying you are a Monopoly. There is plenty of competition out there for music and different mp3 players. It is not Apple's fault that they make the best product in that category so everyone flocks to it. It's not Apple's fault that they have the best App store on the market. This guy can get a palm pre, a blackberry, or an android device and get their app store, I call that competition, why should Apple take a revenue hit because their competitors cannot get their act together and make a better product. Obviously Obama does not think Apple is an monopoly because he has an ipod and a mac.

This guy needs to do some more research before he opens his mouth, Apple is an innovator and is in business to make money not to make everyone Happy that they can use any device on itunes or have other people install apps without itunes, they are not non-profit they are here to give consumers the best products possible and to make money and both of these would take a hit if this idiot got his way, the reason Apple products are so good is because of the control that Apple has over all of it's hardware and software, doing what this guy says would make them lose control and they would become what Microsoft is, making a crappy product with no control over anything.

OK, Apple does have a monopoly -- on the digital media player (DMP) that doesn't suck market. However, take a glance at the overall music industry. There are still more CDs sold than digital downloads because, duh, not everybody owns a DMP. I would guess that CD player penetration is nearly 100 percent, while DMP penetration is perhaps half that.

iTunes is the top music seller in the US, and Amazon is also in the Top 5. But everybody else sells CDs (Amazon included). Saying that Apple's dominance of that slice of the market is a monopoly is, um, stupid. That's like saying Intel is a monopoly because it creates all the CPUs for Macs.

Why should Apple open up iTunes to competitors? It develops an awesome piece of software that works with its devices. Anybody who wants to can buy a Zune or other less awesome DMP and fill it up with ripped CD music or downloads from Amazon or whatever other online sales sites exist.

So in summary, that was one dumb opinion piece.
