Are apple's space wallpapers actually real pictures of space ? Or are they just artwork ? Also what is a good place to get mountain lion wallpapers right now that have a lot of different screen sizes ?

Yes, but they are edited. The wallpapers are out there, but I'm not sure if it's okay to post a link.

    Lion is Andromeda.

Mountain Lion is what is known as NGC 3190.

Google search what? The ML wallpapers? I know that. Apple removes stars/changes colors and things like that on their "space" wallpapers.

They're pictures of auroras, no? I guess the server versions just had the colour changed.

The original picture used as standard wallpaper on Lion was taken by Robert Gendler, an extremely skilled amateur astronomer! It shows M31 (the Andromeda galaxy)
