Hello. I updated Handbrake to the new 0.9.9 and I'm getting very large m4v files compared to the previous 0.9.8 build. I'm taking a MKV from a blu-ray disc and in 0.9.8 it clocked in at 3-4 GB using the AppleTV 3 preset (I never changed any of the settings). Now with the new 0.9.9 AppleTV 3 preset the same file is between 7-10 GB.

Does anyone have any suggestions or a custom preset I can use?

    Thanks for the help!!!

Well, frankly without a log from each encode on a pastebin site and linked here that we could look at, its hard to say, while there is *some* file size fluctuation as 0.9.9 does use a bit different x264 encoding options .. the differences you are stating here are pretty large. I am not seeing anywhere near that in my testing of *same* exact sources.

Maybe go to pastebin.com and paste the log for each the 0.9.8 and the 0.9.9 encode so we can see whats going on. I am suspecting some errant change in the preset settings.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I do not have any logs from the 0.9.8 handbrake. I have re encoded the same MKV with RF 22 and the size dropped to 4ish GB so I will be using that for the moment. But if anyone comes up with a nice custom preset they want to share I will be willing to give it a try.

Well, unless you manually went in and erased them, they are still there.

That is my preference for blu ray. RF 22. Of course it always depends on the source quality, length, grain, complexity, etc. etc. when it comes to final file sizes / bitrates for a given RF visual quality.
