I have been thinking about getting myself Jeffrey Zeldman's book designing with web standards for quite a while now.

Yesterday, after checking out where I could get it here in Copenhagen, I decided to go to the IT University bookshop (40 mins each way, public transport). I got off of the bus out there and started walking towards where I thought it should be. However it wasn't there.

After having walked for about 10 mins, I found myself in the middle of a huge building site, ankle-deep in mud. Bollocks:( !! I was lost. There was only one way out of this. I had to climb over the perimeter fence. RRRRIIIIIPPPP! There go my jeans! But I was out!

When I eventually reached civilisation, I managed to get directions. Which sent me all the way around the block again and guess what.....I had walked right past it on my way into the building site.

Anyway, when I got into the bookshop it was amazing. Shelf upon shelf of Web development and design books. In English, no less!!! I could have spent soooo much money. After much browsing I decided on three books: designing with web standards, understanding color, Professional CSS.

After my three hour trip, I got home without a problem and I am now half-way through Chapter 3 of Zeldman. The man is a god. Even though he is dealing with interesting but dry subject matter, he writes in a really engaging style. So much so, that I can't put it down (well only to write this post).

The moral of this story...there isn't one. Just a story about how I managed to get a pair of fashionably ripped jeans.

Have you read any good books lately....

One of my pair of jeans has started coming apart just from washing. I haven't decided whether I think it makes them look cool or not.

I also climbed a perimeter fence in Copenhagen once when I was 18 years old ... I didn't rip my jeans, though.

The weather is nice, by the way, and does anyone know how to change the colours of the fonts in a theme in iWeb?

This is the link to first and until now only (the second one is in the pipeline) site that I have put together.

I have tried to respect web standards but the design sucks. But hey I'm a newbie.

I'd like 4 of mine back...

    Anyway...

That's a pretty funny story, and I have heard a lot of good reviews on that book.

In High School years ago when I was team commander for the schools NJROTC Armed Drill Team we went to the Regional Finals Competition and one of the cadets pants ripped. It was hilarious and luckily none of the judges saw it happen.

It's also the opening line on the first song on Toyah's 1982 The Changeling album, Creepy Rooms: "Are you sitting comfortably, then we begin. This is the mad hatter's tea party."

(Hmmm... I better get over to the Songs-that-refers-to-books-thread for that one... ;))

    Oh yeah... :D

You can rip jeans just by kneeling on them all the time. I know I have. It's fashionable too. Imagine my surprise when I told one of my friends "I'll have to buy new jeans." because I'd ripped them, and she said "No, you can wear them just like that". Saved myself a good $20 too.

Ontopic, anyone know of a good Java book for beginners?
