Just because he lives in Canada doesn't mean that he's Canadian. You might try something other than assuming.

Yes, diplomatic staff try to do the same things as ordinary citizens do. Imagine that. Does anyone want to pay the congestion charge?

I tell you what: When he gets back to this thread, I'll change it to whatever citizenship he carries. For now, he's a Canadian.

Apparently defending anything America does wrong is more important than good international relations and taking responsibility for one's actions.

This drop in the bucket (considering the way the U.S. government wastes money) is probably only unpaid because the paperwork for reimbursement is a pain or there is no reimbursement.

there's something i don't understand about london's congestion charge. i get that there are cameras and a license plate recognition system, and i get that drivers have until a certain time of the day to pay, but what i don't get is how they do that.

do drivers get out of their cars and feed their credit card into a machine? pay online? can frequent drivers pay in advance, say a month at a time? is there some kind of top-off system? are drivers expected to pay if they're not detected? someone please explain!

Does the fact that other countries do the same thing negate the US' transgressions?

Does the fact that the OP is living in Canada nullify the problem?

No matter where you are or where they're from, pretty much anyone driving a car with diplomat plates is, by some strange unwritten law, bound to be a bonafide peckerhead.

The selection process in the US almost guarantees it.

It may be written law for this administration. Or at least an executive order.

Umm... Just because someone posts on an internet forum doesn't mean they are male. You might try something other than assuming!

(Hint: I don't know too many Goddesses with male anatomy.)
    ;)

And I LOVE how other people's bad behavior is being used as a justification for our own. Heh. Says a lot about a person.

Hey, the music companies are ripping me off, and lots of other people pirate worse than me. That makes it OK for me to do, right?

I recall hearing stories about unpaid parking fines in DC of foreign diplomats cars that run into the thousands of dollars.

Although I'm too lazy to look it up. :D

    Ignorant Yank Question

What in hell is a 'congestion charge'?

Is there a levy on people with head colds now?

(OK, from context I gather that it pertains to traffic congestion, but I don't intuitively get precisely what it is that one does in a vehicle that nets one a congestion charge. Double-parking? Driving too slow? Blocking the intersection by entering it without being able to make it to the other side before the traffic light changes?)

You could say the same about Democrats as well. Seeing as I'm neither, your message doesn't apply to me ;)

Entering the City of London at certain times of the day attracts a charge that must be paid. It works by cameras monitoring the approach roads, and after you enter the cit you have a set amount of time to pay it, or the rate you have to pay increases.

well, you seem to have me pegged wrong also then.

perhaps i should've said "the bush administration" instead of the republican party. i know that they've bastardized what the party supposedly stands for (small gov't, etc)

Cool it, guys. We haven't had a thread locked on this forum for quite a while, and that's where this one seems to be headed.
