Nice spin. They say Apple "copied" the idea.

The truth is, Apple was vital to making the mouse reality in the real world--and not just because they made the GUI a reality. There was an article in Scientific American maybe 2 years ago about the history of the mouse, and Apple's role in the hardware development was vital. They solved major engineering problems that made the mouse actually WORK. Prior to that it would jam, etc.

Various people implemented attempts at a successful mouse, none of them, including Apple, claimed to have invented the idea. But Apple is the one who actually added something IMPORTANT to the idea... and they are the one the article singles out as "copying" the mouse. As if they did nothing themselves.

Nice journalism--report on the history of the mouse without bothering to research.

(The same could be said of the GUI, which did not exist in a truly usable form at PARC. Apple invented a practical GUI for the real world.)
