This week, The Boy Genius Report published what they claimed to be an internal AT&T document that stated the following:

Many sites, including The Boy Genius Report, incorrectly assumed that the use of the word "tethering" meant that AT&T was introducing a plan to allow customers to share their iPhone's internet connection with their computer.

This is not the case, and The Boy Genius Report has updated their story. The use of the word "tether" simply refers to a customer's contractual obligations, and the email was referring to the fact that existing iPhone users upgrading to 16 GB iPhones will have their new contracts backdated, as we have previously covered.

it takes a special kind of fool to read that and not assume that it's about tethering the phone to sync it to iTunes and activate it. It doesn't say a thing about internet connection sharing.

Mac, iPhone, Apple rumors go round and round and grow and grow -- it's great fun but we must learn to see the woods from the tree (don't ask me why). this "tethering" stuff was obvious from the start. Like the stuff about gaming -- Somebody mentions games and a bunch of comments and inside info about Apple building a console or whatever springs up like there is no tomorrow (by the way, there is no tomorrow), it gets silly but it is always fun.
OK I better go to bed -- getting late here in london -- sorry.

Some people have been sharing iPhone's internet on their computers since last summer.

wwwWWoW! That would change everything. I'd no longer have to pay $30 a month for my iMacs slow wifi connection PLUS $20 a month for my iPhones slow Edge connection? This is exciting news! Inquiring minds, or at least mine, would love some info as to the hows & whys. Got any links handy?

If it didn't cost $50 a month to essentially check my email & macrumors, I might take my iPhone back off ebay. ..or maybe pick up one of those sweet 16s. Oooh! Something new to fiddle with.
