I just got a Toshiba A30 HD-DVD player and I want to hook it up to the internet. I noticed the apple TV has an ethernet port on the back. Can this be used to attach a device to my wireless network or is it strickly to attach ATV to a wired network. If so, would anyone recommend an airport express? I just don't want to lay cable all the way accross the room to my extreme base station.

Thanks

Apple TV is not a wireless router.

You could get another Airport Express and use it as a wireless repeater for your existing base station. Or, I would run a single cable to a hub/switch for both the Apple TV and the Toshiba HD-DVD player as wired is always faster. I don't think you'll need the HD-DVD player hooked up all the time so you could just run a cable when you need firmware updates.
