I'm using the ATV on an old HDTV that only has component cable ports. Every so often the video signal gets scrambled and sometimes it doesn't get any signal at all.

I tried another ATV on the same TV and got the same problem. I've also tried different component cables and that didn't help either. I didn't run out and get monster cables or something like that because I think that's a bunch of BS (at least in the audio world).

So could this be a cable issue? Also would having a weak wireless signal cause this? Although I don't know why since it's play things directly off the drive.

    Thoughts?

Sounds like the problem could be with your TV's component inputs...

That's what I was afraid of. I wasn't ignoring the obvious but was hoping for something cheaper than buying a whole new TV.

I'm sure this is far too late for the original poster, but in case somebody else with the same problem stumbles upon this thread (as I did earlier today), I thought I'd post my solution.

I had the same problem, and it was due to the fact that the ATV was set to the (much higher) resolution of the tv in my family room, so when I moved it down to my old CRT tv in the basement, my CRT tv didn't know how to interpret the signal.

Holding + and menu on the ATV remote will force the ATV to test all the possible resolutions, and if it finds one your tv can read, you are set.
