When i first setup the MP I noticed that all the audio was coming through my internal speaker rather then through the line out to my harmon/kardone speakers. So I went into the audio setting and noticed that the internal speakers was choosen. No problem, it was an easy fix. But I have never heard of a mac coming from the factory like that. Now I am faced with my line in not working, and the setting for that are fine. Does anyone have any ideas for that? I have tested my mic and know that it does work.

Mine was also set to internal speaker when I got it. I reset it to use the line out and I'm not experiencing anyproblems. I have not tried using the line in.

I think its just an issue with the particular build of OS X which comes with the Mac Pro. I too had the same problem, but I think its just down to the default OS X build.

The audio setup is a bit confusing on the MacPros. You need to change the settings depending on if you're using speakers or the headphone jack, be nice if it worked like it did with the PowerMacs.

For the linein you need to open Audio MIDI Setup (Applications folder, then Utilities) and see if the playthrough checkbox can be checked. If not, just grab Linein from here:

I've run a few devices through audio in, all of which were powered and the playthrough box was always greyed out. Linein worked everytime though.

I installed that software with no luck. Here is my current situation.

Is OSX my audio input is not working after installing Audio software suggested. In XP my audio input is not working as well, and the internal speaker of the MP is still on. Any other ideas? Your help is much apreciated.

That's a bug with the Windows drivers, I haven't seen any fixes for it. A workaround is to plug something, anything, into the front headphone port to mute the internal speaker. The line out port should continue to work. If it's not working in the first place maybe the Boot Camp drivers didn't get installed successfully.

For OS X, you don't go into Audio MIDI Setup. Go to System Preferences>Sound>Output and select "line out".

For OS X I recommend SoundSource or Sound Menu , little tools that give you the full control over the sound input/output of your Mac without to get into the audio preference pane, great ;)

I have done that. And installed Sound source for a quick switch. I still dont get any audio in. I am starting to think that there may be some issue with the port itself.
