Does anyone have any recommendations for an audio out interface? I would like to have an external (USB/Firewire) audio output device that can do 2 different stereo outputs (4 channels).

Ok I'm guessing no takers for that! Would this be an option? I have a macbook pro, so I can do digital/surround out. Can I use Logic to surround mix the two stereo tracks, but hard pan 2 speaker sets, and then wire them physically in the room as 2 L/R pairs?

Disclaimer: I've never used the digital out, but having 7 discreet channels should allow this I would imagine. Is there a cable splitter of some kind that would do this?

    Thanks for helping!

Edirol FA66 has four audio line outs. They are balanced outputs too.
Likely there are others. Sells for about $280

You're pretty much just looking for an D/A converter. So when looking at device, make sure the converters are as good as possible. Unfortunately most device that have 4 outs also have many ins that usually have preamps. And all this extra stuff will drive up the price.

Not sure what you're willing to spend, but here's one for $200

    Specs Line Outputs (D/A):
Output Impedance 150 Ohms unbalanced, 300 Ohms balanced
    Maximum Output Level +1.8dBV, unbalanced
    +10.1dBu, balanced
    Channel-to-Channel Crosstalk < -108dB
    SNR -103dB, A-weighted
    Dynamic Range 103dB, A-weighted
    THD+N 0.005% (-86dB) @ -1dBFS, 1kHz
    Frequency Response 20Hz to 20kHz, +/- 0.3dB @ 48kHz sample rate
