Hello all, I have some iTunes songs that I would like to rename. In my workflow in automator i have
    1. Find songs in iTunes
    2. Get specified iTunes items
    3. Set Info of iTunes songs

My question comes in that I don't want to rename all the song names to the same thing, each one will be unique. In fact, I simply wish to delete the first 8 characters in the songs' current name. Here's an example:

    Current song name: "cd11 04 Preludes Op 28 - e minor"
Projected song name: "Preludes Op 28 - e minor"

And in every song, I want to delete those first 8 characters which denote the cd name and song track number.

Is there an automator function or some piece of code I put into the "Name" field in automator to accomplish this?

Also, is there some type of Automator database that lists all the entry commands for fields (if there are any), that could possibly help me in the future?

    Thanks in advance,

I like Automator, it is quite useful, so I want to help with this one.
I looked through the iTunes actions in Automator and found the "Set Info of iTunes Songs" action. I think this might be what you are looking for. What you would probably want to start with is "Get Specified iTunes items" and then "Set info..." action. The only problem I see though, is that you would have to set the info you want to change in the Workflow which means you probably have to change the workflow each time you have new files. Hmmm... anyone else?

EDIT: Well I couldn't get it to work, but Google helped me out:

That looks like a pretty resourceful place.

Worked absolutely perfectly. Thank you so much. It seems like applescript's are more what I was looking for.
