I'm considering buying an apple TV to use for airplay mirroring from my Macbook Pro. I'm concerned about my old router being fast enough. Can someone use activity monitor and tell me what kind of network speed is reported during mirroring? I don't know if what is mirrored affects the traffic but if so what is the speed during a 1080p video mirror?

Sarcasmville.
It depends on how much is changing on the screen. A mostly static screen (1080p) will take about 250KB/s. Doing a full screen transition (what I did was swap in and out of the dashboard back and forth) and I got it up to about 1.2MB/s.

also, please make sure your mac is supported, that's caught a lot of people by surprise.

iMac (Mid 2011 or newer)
Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)

it has to do with having a hardware encoding chip, otherwise, airplay eats a ton of processor and slows the computer down.
