The 30 gb on my iBook are gone. I remember seeing some really thin and small hard drives attached to the laptops at the Apple Store, but I never really paid attention to them until now.

So what is the most portable external 80+ gb hard drive for the cheapest price?

The thin n' light ones you are referring to are external drives using a laptop drives so they are much smaller and lighter, but also contain less storage capacity.

If you are looking for the best bang for your money, then a regular 3.5" external would give me much more storage for a comparible price.

    Example from Newegg:
    Samsung 7200rpm 80Gb 3.5 drive - $54.00
    Samsung 4200rpm 80Gb 2.5 drive - $149.00

Anyway, there is a little info. I would say that unless you simply must have the smallest drive possible then go with the 3.5" and gain some space for the same money. If the smallest drive ever is not all that important, then go with a classic hd and larger enclosure, and save yourself some money.
