Upto Quake 3 ID were the kings of the FPS castle, with the last two Quake 4 & Doom 3 - with the dreaded Doom 3 plastic corridor poorly constructed level engine, they have really lost the plot. They cant even structure a decent online game anymore - even prey using the engine suffers the same problems and equally poor multiplayer....

The hayday of iD is long gone.

iD is the department(can i say this) of the company that made the game....

Any game with wolfenstein in it sucks.....

For me it's Doom 2. Just too classic. And it just doesn't get any more intense than this. No fancy AI, no pixel accurate hit detection, not even in true 3D, just hoplessly outnumbered and you just keep pushing at it.

But its not that iD has lost their way it's just that others have raised the bar. But come on, what was the last FPS you played that could compare to that relentless Doom 2 rush.

    Q3:A hands down.

    It's the only thing I remember from 2001 to 2003. :D

    P.S. It's spelled id.

Were most of it's games even made by id?

Anyway, I'd say Quake 3 Arena, as it was and is an excellent DM shooter. Sure, they have worn out there welcome mostly these days, but Q3A was wonderfully crafted and still lives on today.

Quake 2 and Doom 2 tied.

Quake 3 was poor (for anyone without an internet connection or a LAN), Doom 3 was boring and Quake 4 was interesting but nothing special.

I personally loved Doom 3. The ending was a little... "that's it?" Otherwise, great gameplay, good jumps, got the heart pumping, made my friend (who is a grown man) scream while playing it in broad daylight, and great graphics.

    id makes crap games.

Quake or Quake II for me - although they're both 'not that good' in my book.

    Raven, I believe.

And yeah, I can't believe that Commander Keen isn't in that list.

^ Thats it. Thanks Nermal :) They also made the StarTrek: Elite Force games and ported Quake 4 to Xbox360 too :) Are they totally independant of id, as most of their work seems to involve off shoots and ports of id engine games?

From wikipedia: "In 1997, Raven made an exclusive publishing deal with Activision and was subsequentally acquired by them. They have a history of working with id Software, and took over development of id's Quake franchise for Quake 4."

And it's gotta be Quake3. Amazing multiplayer :D That and UT99 GotY... hours of fun! (and then I lost my UT99 disk :()

Are we allowed to conjecture that Enemy Territory: Quake Wars will be the best even though it's not out yet?

Quake 1 for me. I always have loads of fun playing that game.

One question though. Why didn't you make a poll?

Nope, that's correct. IIRC, that's from the original Doom though, which I haven't played as much. What a loser...
