I've been playing the demo version of Loco Roco and am pretty happy with it.

It has made me realize that nearly all the games that I like are kind of off kilter.

    Favorites:
    Pikmin 1 & 2
    The various Katamari games
Ico (and Shadow of the Colossus)

    On the way:
    Loco Roco
    Okami

While I like them well enough, the Wario-ware games are a little too basic. Any other suggestions? I have: GC, DS, PS2 & PSP.

ps. I don't give a rat's ass if the game is too short/long or easy/hard. I just want cool and weird.

I suppose one could start a thread about beat-off games too, but ugh. I'd hate to see the responses.

Loco Roco on the way  I've been playing it for months :D

I love avant garde gaming too, there are some real gems out there.

rez, lumines, mercury, katamari damacy, phoenix wright, trauma centre, ico, pikmin 1 & 2, animal crossing, alien hominid, viewtiful joe etc....

Really looking forward to Viva Pinata on the 360 - animal crossing meets the sims
and Okami looks like Capcoms last gen swan song - I just hope it does well at retail (unfortunetly it'll probably get swallowed by the EA holiday machine)

I like Lumines fine, but that is not quite what I am after. Viewtiful Joe was good, but I did not find it compelling enough. And by "compelling" I mean: it was too tedious-- or maybe hard. Mercury was kind of lame--like a deluxe Marble Madness or something. I like Animal Crossing, but I don't have the patience to sit down and play it all the time. Judging by the thread with the Animal Crossing friends postings I know that there are plently of others that are way more into it.

Viva Pinata might be worth checking out. It looks interesting, but not to the point where it will cause me to get a 360. If a game like Pikmin or Okami was only on 360 that would probably push me over the edge. Ditto for a cool avant garde (sounds better than off-beat) game on the PS3-- and yes, I know it would costs lots of bling.

Chibi-Robo on the Gamecube felt a little bit like Pikmin to me. It's not rated as high as Pikmin but I enjoyed it anyway. It's a little bit on the short side. You might want to rent it.

Elebits on the Wii looks something in between Pikmin and Chibi-Robo.

I really loved primal too, pushed the ps2 further than nearly all other games on a hardware front. Great title.

Other mention Chibi-Robo on the GC, just to let you know getting this game is a pain in the rectum. It's out of print already and is fetching good prices (read high) second hand on ebay.

Great game, if you can track down a copy - a task thats harder than it seems.

Another game I played that was like nothing else was Magic Pengel on the PS2.

You basically doodle a creature and then the game animates it. You bring it to an arena and fight. It's attributes and abilities are dependent on how you draw it. Make it slim and it's quick. make it fat and it has lots of hit points. Draw some horns and it will use them to attack. It evens somehow figures out the correct walking technique depending of the shape and amount of legs you draw. The colors also affect it's abilities. Some colors are more physical, others magical. Very clever stuff. I spent more time designing creatures than actually fighting. My AT-ST was very funny and my Grandizer looked just like the real thing. :D

This game would have been even better with some sort online mode.

Here is a video review: Link (Note: you can make much more sophisticated creatures than the one shown here.)

I enjoyed viewtiful....1st game I played for the cube and it was just... ....but part 2 and the battle one was not up to par.

Primal was one of those games I couldn't put down....so interesting and the gameplay was so cool.....I'm always on the look out for those extra but disregarded games...they are the best.

Yep in fact all the Odd world games, may they rest in peace have found a sweet spot with me.

Munches odyssey & strangers wrath on the xbox are both excellent too.

I really liked the original Super Monkey Ball. It was "off-beat" when I got it, but now there's all kinds of sequels. I still just have the original, though.

The guy at Target looked at me for a long time when I bought it.

    Killer7 - I don't know ho wmany times I completed it.

An old favourite from the PS1 was Rakugaki Showtime. Very rare and really weird game by Treasure. Bishi Bashi was another on the PS1.

Does Oendan count for DS? Pure genius was that.
