Every once in a while the TV execs screw one up big time. Like can anyone explain why M.A.S.H. was on the air for so long? Never thought it was terrribly impressive...

Anyway, I think one of the greatest shows that never had a chance was "SportsNight". It was about a bunch of people working on a TV sports magazine like Sportscenter. It was really well-written and well-acted, but ultimately ABC gave it the axe because there wasn't a laugh track.... I don't think the average audience was able to keep up.

If you want to check it out, it's on super-late on Comedy Central.

SportsNight was a great show, and it definitley shouldn't have been canceled.

It's out on DVD - you should get it.

    2 shows with kevin nealon...

    the first was:

"champs" (1996)- a show about a bunch of high school basketball teammates and their coach.... once they're grown up... ie, they're all still friends and live near each other and stuff... nealon was the highlight, but it was funny beyond him...

and not as good as champs was:

"hiller and diller" (1997)- nealon and richard lewis were two parents... typical sitcom, but kevin nealon is awesome, so i'm partial to it. ;)

i know there are a few others... i would have liked to see some more of michael richards' show, not because it was good, because i didn't see it, but because timmy meadows was on it and you can never have too much timmy meadows...

seinfeld didn't really get "cancelled".... it was more like cheers...

    Now and Again

That idiot, Lessie Mooves, was the biggest idiot for canceling such a great show just after the first season and at one of the best cliffhangers at that!

    BRING BACK "NOW AND AGAIN"!

I thought futurama has not been officially cancelled. I heard that it was put on the shelf until further notice, but not cancelled. Anyway, my picks are as follows.

    G-1 Transformers
    Kids in the Hall
    Married with children

Futurama had potential, it just didn't quite make it.

Greg the Bunny was fantastic - but the network didn't want something so cerebral as a puppet with a show that dealt with issues.....

    Blah!

By far, the best show that was stopped was THE CRITIC. It's still on really late on sunday nights, but its not much fun being exhausted on mondays, and i dont have TIVO :(

You can still get match of the day, but only when the bbc cover an international.

Best show to get cancelled: Fawlty Towers :D

    My personal favorites were:
    Married with Children

The show with the bunny and the "Hit the road Jack theme song." I can't believe I don't remember the name!!! I used to watch it alot though.

I love lucy was great. It is still syndicated, so I watch it alot.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers ( I think now it's like Power rangers in a galaxy?)

Well that is my list. I miss these shows, even though two of them are in syndication, and the other has a predecessor.

Seinfeld didn't get cancelled. Jerry and the producers decided they wanted to end the show while it was still good, and not drag it out until nobody's watching any more (ie. M*A*S*H, All In The Family, etc.). If NBC had its way, that show would still be on the air (ie. Friends).

My vote goes to HBO's "Mr. Show with Bob and David." The third season is coming out on DVD in mid-August.

Futurama, indeed. It had even more potential than The Simpsons and has been great. That's definitely the show I miss most.

Another one on my list is Special Unit 2. This one started here in Germany just some weeks ago and I like it very much, but as they only made one season, it will be over soon...:(

Yeah I totally agree, Heres an interesting side note; the 11:30 EST showign on Cartoon Network averages 1million viewers per night and beats leno and letterman in th 18-34 demo. Also they are planning on show the very controversial (i've seen it) 50th episode that basically makes jew jokes the whole time but it is quite funny.

I loved seinfeld but i don't think it counts as cancelled because the network didn't shut it down, seinfeld himself did. Shows that simply run their course shouldn't be counted as cancelled

I was never a futurama fan but it had its moments.

oh yeah great thread idea :)
