I thought it would be cool to have a list of really cool, odd or otherwise interesting websites.

    Ok here are the rules:

Post only one site and post a description. No long lists just one site that you guys think is awesome. And no posts without a site please.
    I'll start.

Metacritic - A site that aggregates reviews from newspapers, magazines, etc. and puts them in a 0 to 100 rating system that defines the meta score for things like movies, books, music, games, etc. The second rating is from the users, which is an independent meta score. Awesome to check out whether a movie is worth seeing etc.

Pretty self explanatory really. A very good database of some of the finest metal this side of a PowerBook. :)

How 'bout Digg for all your tech news? It is actually more than tech news, it includes articles/blogs/opinions etc. that are related to technology.

Digg puts the the readers in control of what goes on the front page. It's a fantastic concept and it works really well. If you find an article, post it to Digg. If others like it, they vote for it (or "digg" it) and if enough people digg it, it gets on the front page. You can add your digg news/top stories to your own website, you can have "friends" where you can check out the stories they digg.

I dare you to spend five minutes on digg and not click on any stories. It can even be a little addicting.

    Am I being redundant? ;)

Actually it was you who gave me the idea to start this thread because I found digg really cool. Actually it'd be nice if you could add a description here too plz. Thanks.

    I'll add another one:

BugMeNot - a great site that lets you bypass compulsory web registration, just enter the site name and it'll give you a password. Great for those articles that you normally would have to register for.

    the impulsive buy

This guy writes HILARIOUS product reviews. Monthly, he has a prize drawing and he mails it to ya. (I won July's and I'm embarrassed because of what I received in the mail today... )
I've emailed back and forth with him a few times, and he's applying to be a Mac Specialist at the Honolulu Apple store.

so Product reviews + Apple = groovy.

    Folklore.org

Stories from the original Macintosh development teams. SUPER interesting. I actually got this off Digg a while ago.

The stories are really interesting. Super AWesome.

Sure, I just did :) I'm glad you started this one though, this thread is a great idea. And btw, I love metacritic, thanks for the link.

And Mitthrawnuruodo I love Astronomy Picture of the day! If you like that, you may also like The Earth Science Picure of the Day. Equally cool.

I love overzealous people who do not read the entire post or the bold stuff. :p

javiercr could you limit your post to one link plz. That way it's not a flood in here. Thanks. :)

I don't know how many people know about this, probably a lot, but I still ove it:

Yeah, I love that one. It's great to see some of the movies coming up even if they never make it to our shores. :(

I think the layout, in typical Apple fashion, is nice and simple too.

Stuff like pics, temperature, active and healthy activities. This has it all. www.cockeyed.com - This guy is great. Check out his "How much is inside" and "Pranks" section. You can't really explain it, just read it.

Interesting. I've never got into the "local info" web sites because I've always figured that as a local, they couldn't really tell me anything new. I always thought they were more set up for tourists. You seem to be getting quite a bit from it though so I'll start checking it out. Thanks. :)

Good site, I thought the first few weren't that funny and almost closed the window, but I read on and he is pretty funny.

    Thanks Diatribe...love Resexcellence.

    Also check out www.daveramsey.com ..

This guy is a money coach, not to be confused with an investment coach. He coaches people on how to be debt free (even your home) and build wealth by changing your behavior with money, then be able to have money to give where needed (community, family, charity, church, etc.). Check out his book, Total Money Makeover, and go through his Financial Peace University (available on cd or dvd). We are going through it with some family members now.

He also has a radio show (listen live) that is free on line, and a podcast. It's funny to listen to some situations that people get themselves in when they call in to his show.

sorry my description was probably a little long...but this stuff will change your life. i would recommend every young couple listen to it.

Everybody already knows about the old standbys like fark and slashdot, so I thought I'd go with something a little more obscure:

www.woot.com - One Day, One Deal. Their motto pretty much sums it up. One super-cheap item per day, updated at Midnight Central time. Keep an eye out for $1 bag'o'craps (which sometimes have pretty expensive stuff in them), or multi-deal per day extravaganzas called Woot-offs. Shipping $5, no matter how big or heavy the item.
