Apple's product lineup has expanded over the past couple of years with the addition of the Apple Watch, a third notebook line, and most recently AirPods, and while 2016 turned out to be a bit of a disappointment for some with the Mac in particular seeing many models go the entire year without an update, there were still a number of significant updates.

As we reach the end of the year, it's worth a look back at some of the more notable and accurate rumors and leaks from 2016 to see how the sometimes long and winding road of rumors led to the product launches we eventually saw.

Tim Cook went into overdrive to say that this would be an exciting year for the release of new Apple products. Apple Watch 2 was underwhelming, the iPhone 7 was nothing much to shout about, I ended up getting the MacBook Pro 15 (2015) and the iPhone SE this year. I stuck with the first edition of the Apple Watch.

AirPods and the iPhone SE were the only things this year that stood out to me. The Touch Bar is neat but the hardware is gimped so it doesn't really matter. I also really like my Jet Black iPhone 7 but it's not much better or different than my 6s aside from a better battery. What upsets me the most is the decline of the Mac and shady moves by Apple to cover up problems.

The most disappointing leak 2016: iPhone 7. It soon became clear that there were no design changes except the still bumping camera bezel and the thrilling and now sadly answered question about the headphone jack getting removed or not. There were no positive expectations, nothing that made me look forward getting my hands on, just fear about a once great but already kind of worn out product becoming even more boring and uninspired (especially regarding its design).

Well, let's be honest: Apple is such a big company and popular target that leaks are inevitable.

I'm disappointed with the Mac products (or lack thereof), but I am delighted with my iPhone SE, iPad Pro 9.7", Apple Pencil, and [soon] AirPods.

It's just a roundup of the rumors this year to reveal how accurate they are and what to possibly expect this upcoming year.

The only Apple product we bought this year was the iPhone SE. It was the first time we bought a newly released Apple product that fit our needs, but had the functionality reduced from the larger iPhones. It used to be that Apple let one pick the form factor, but all else was the same. Not any more, smaller iPhone users are not able to get the latest and greatest. its a shame Apple has decided to segregate their customer base. I am used to the all inclusive Apple.

It would seem that either the Mini or the MBA would have to survive. Those are the least expensive gateway option to enter the macOS ecosystem. The MBA was a great notebook for a student.
Of course, Apple could make the MacBook the new MBA if they reduced the prices. The current price structure for MacBook vs MacBook Pro makes no sense. Other than an incredibly thin device what is the value in buying MacBook. Even the base model is too close to the MBP base.
As for the Mac Pro, it seems to be an afterthought or niche product to placate a few professionals. If the rumors that the new iMac will have version with Xeon CPU maybe the Pro will be dumped.
